Mayer “Bubba” Mitchell (z”l) and Leonard Kaplan had one powerful vision – to create a retreat center in the south for year-round Jewish educational programs.

Ramah Darom (Ramah of the South) is a world-class Jewish overnight camp and retreat center in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Ramah Darom’s mission is to offer exceptional experiences in Jewish living and learning to youth, adults, families and communities year-round.

Ramah Darom was founded 16 years ago by Mayer “Bubba” Mitchell (z”l) and Leonard Kaplan. Mayer and Leonard had one powerful vision – to build a retreat center in the south that would offer engaging Jewish programming year-round. Sixteen years later, in 2012 more people than ever before joined us for programs and retreats throughout the year. With thousands of visitors and hundreds of groups taking advantage of our camp, programs and rental opportunities on our campus, now than ever before, we see their dream becoming a reality.

Today, during the summer, campers join us from 11 southern states – including Georgia and Florida, Alabama and Texas – for a fun, inspiring and educational Jewish overnight camp experience. Throughout the rest of the year, Ramah Darom hosts thousands of people on our campus for programs, simchas (celebrations) and retreats.

Ramah Darom is surrounded by more than 10,000 acres of hiking trails in the adjacent Chattahoochee National Forest. The inspiring scenery, beautiful facilities and comfortable lodging provide the perfect landscape for fun and meaningful Jewish experiences.
