Ramah Bamah

Ramah Bamah, is a 2-week program for rising 8th & 9th grade campers interested in musical theater. Participants will work with seasoned professionals on acting and musical skill development and perform a special Ramah Bamah production for the entire Camp.

This just in…Ramah Bamah will present “The Sound of Music”, youth edition, for Kayitz (Summer) 2024!

“I can’t wait for Ramah Bamah next year. I had the best time last summer. I’ve been in the most incredible Vocal program for my 8th grade year. I get to sing and learn music theory every day. I am one of the very few Jewish kids that attend the entire school, and I even convinced our choral director to sing a Hebrew song for our Winter Concert. It’s been a really great experience so far.”

-Taliah H, Jacksonville, FL

Whether joining us at Camp for just the 2-week program or combining Ramah Bamah with a 4-week or full-summer Camp experience, participants will live among their same-age peers and participate in tzrif (bunk) activities and aidah (age division) programs. Ramah Bamah campers will experience all the magic of Ramah Darom’s joyful Jewish community while spending their elective time focusing on the performing arts.

“As a parent, I can tell you that Ramah Bamah was incredible for our daughter who loved being a part of this program. She grew as an actress, a person, as a Jew and as a member of a community that lifts each other up. She made deep connections and friendships with the other people in this program, she has deep admiration and respect for the staff who led them and her confidence has skyrocketed. As a rabbi, Jewish educator  and supporter of Machaneh (Camp) Ramah, I can say that this program is an excellent way to blend Judaism and Jewish values with the arts experience. I am so proud this opportunity is available for young Jews in such a positive Jewish environment. Sign up your kids as soon as you can!”

Introducing the Ramah Bamah Directors

Acting Director

Jonah Greene is a Ph.D. student and Graduate Teaching Assistant in the Department of Theatre & Dance at the University of Kansas. He has an extensive theatrical background in directing, dramaturgy, acting, and administration, with credits at the University of Kansas, SpeakEasy Stage Company in Boston, Tufts University, the Jewish Plays Project, TheatreSquared, JELLY Theatre Workshop, New Threshold Theatre, The Hatchery, and Arts Live Theatre. As a Ph.D. student, Jonah’s research and theatre-making interests focus on the intersections between theatre and Jewish community, history, and identity. He has presented scholarly work at multiple professional theatre and Jewish Studies conferences. Jonah is a former Ramah Darom chanich (camper) and madrich (counselor), Gesher ‘14, and is thrilled to be returning to lead the Ramah Bamah program!

Musical Director

Rabbi Adam Roffman is from Dallas, Texas where he and his wife Rabbi Shira Wallach (a Darom alum!) have served since 2013. Prior to rabbinical school at JTS, Adam spent several years in New York working as an actor and director. Adam trained at Circle in the Square Theatre School and the tools he mastered there have helped him integrate his passion for building Jewish communities and his reverence for musical theatre. Aside from directing epic Purim spiels, Adam has written two one-man shows that chronicle his career as a rabbi and performer, the second of which, Songs Your Rabbi Shouldn’t Sing, premieres this fall.
